FRANKLIN—Romine Vermont Chappell Hundley Turner died Dec. 13, 2007 at East Pavilion.
She was the daughter of the late Herbert Hart Chappell and Romine Sue Camp Chappell.
Mrs. Turner grew up in Sebrell and Sedley in Southampton County. She graduated from Courtland High School and Madison College and The College of William and Mary.
Survivors include two sisters, Unity Bailey and Ida Beaton.
During the summers of her college years, she and her sisters were employed as telegraph operators for the Virginian Railroad, as their father had taught them Morse Code.
She began her teaching career in Southampton County, continuing in Chesterfield and Hopewell, and returning to the City of Franklin public schools.
When Paul D. Camp Community College was established she joined the faculty as Director of Continuing Education.
She served as a member of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation team and traveled extensively in this capacity.
A lifetime Methodist she attended church in Sedley, Capron and Franklin.
Her affiliations included: Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the Confederacy, Southampton County Historical Society, and Sedley Woman’s Club; and she was a founding member of the Sunshine Club.
She was predeceased by two husbands Thomas Rainey Hundley and Marks Turner; and two sisters Sue Darden Chappell and Rebecca Gillette.
Survivors include five daughters and one son; 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held in Rosemont Cemetery.
In lieu of food or flowers, the family requests that a random act of kindness be done in her memory.
