POWHATAN—The Southampton Academy volleyball team won its first match of the year Thursday, defeating Blessed Sacrament Huguenot 3-1.
After losing the first game 23-25, the Lady Raiders charged back to take the next three 25-19, 25-17 and 28-26.
“They started out slow,” said Head Coach Sarah Nixon. “The girls have to get used to playing with each other. I am proud of them for coming back.”
Standouts for SA included Katelyn Newsome with 14 kills and Meagan Pope with eight kills.
In addition, Abbey Weist had a couple of good digs and Beth Waller and Bridgitte Bradshaw had some good sets, Nixon said.
