FRANKLIN—A local poet has once again had his words set to music.

Ricky Clemons, 49, started writing inspirational poetry in 1995. After a stint away from the church, he was compelled to write one day— a gift he says was bestowed on him by God.

“I had never written anything before,” he said.

“I’ve been through a lot of hardship in my life. I know God got me through it, so I love to praise him in my poetry and songs.

“Giving my life over to the Lord is the best decision anyone can make,” he said.

Now, Clemons has had lyrics recorded on six CDs and is working on his third book of poetry, “Ocean of My Soul,” to be released before Christmas.

The latest CD, titled “America,” is a compilation of 26 songs. Clemons’ words have been used to create a melody called “Will Never Look More Beautiful.”

The release features male and female vocalists singing primarily inspirational songs set to a variety of musical genres.

Clemons said his inspirational words reflect his goal to encourage young people to follow through on their aspirations and to be good Christians.

“They should strive to be the best in what they do in life,” he said.

“It will turn out to be a good reward in life if they respect people, treat everybody right and always do God’s will. It will add years to their life.

“Once they put Jesus Christ first, there’s nothing they can’t achieve.”

Clemons said for the older people, it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.

“I am living proof of that,” he said.

Clemons has won awards for his poetry and hopes to have a new gospel CD out in May or June.

The America CD is available for $15.98 plus shipping. Log onto www.hilltoprecords.com and enter the code No. ACD-445. Clemons may be reached at (757) 535-9819.
