HAMPTON—Joyce Ann Dorner Hudson was born on Dec. 6, 1931, in Newport News, died Nov. 22. 2007, from the James River Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Hudson was a native and lifelong resident of Newport News and Hampton.
She graduated in 1948 from Newport News High School. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had also served in the Lord’s work while attending Chestnut Memorial United Methodist, Wythe Parkway Baptist, and Ivy Memorial Baptist churches.
She enjoyed working with the youth programs as a teacher, leader, and served on many committees.
She was employed at People’s Life Ins. Co. and NACA prior to her marriage to surviving husband, John “Jack” Hudson. They had 57 years of a wonderfully, blessed life while raising, teaching and loving surviving daughters, Jeanette Morris and husband Michael, Jeri Wickiser and husband Wilson, Judy Cleckley and husband Scott, and Joan Threatt and husband Ed. These daughters have provided five grandsons; five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter; she is also survived by her brother, Charles Dorner and wife Carole of Smithfield; her sister, Doris Price of Newport News; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert M. Dorner; mother, Eleanor L. Dorner; and sister, Elsie V. Dorner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive callers and friends at the home of Judy Cleckley, 5 Sutton Place, Hampton, through Thursday.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday in the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. David Bounds and Joe Hunt officiating, followed by interment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one’s favorite charity or Mission Daystar, Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666.
