Mable G. Byrd

SUFFOLK—Mable G. Artis Byrd, 89, died Nov. 23, 2007, at Autumn Care in Suffolk.
Mrs. Byrd was born on Oct. 28, 1918, the daughter of the late John and Adelaide Artis of Surry.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hinton D. Byrd; daughter, Ruth Byrd Butler; son-in-law, Wilber Butler Sr.; and grandson, Wilber Butler Jr.
She was a faithful member of Cypress Baptist Church of Elberon and also a servant of St. Paul Holiness Church of Surry, where she served as a member of the choir and Sunday school.
Survivors include a daughter, Artis M. Byrd of Surry; son, Carlton T. Byrd (Darleen) of Smithfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Louise McDaniel of Atlanta, Ga.; step-brother, William Gilchrist (Flossie) of Surry; a sister-in-law, Mary Artis of Spring Valley, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Harvey Jenkins of Surry; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mrs. Cherry A. Hudson.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Holiness Church at 1 p.m. on today. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be one hour prior to the service today at the church.
