SUFFOLK—Camp YMCA Swimming Sharks swim team swam their second meet of the year, a tri-meet against Suffolk Family YMCA Gators and the Luter Family YMCA Marlins on Nov. 3.
It was a very close meet, but Luter Family YMCA edged out CYSS in the last few events with Suffolk taking third.
“I am very proud of all the swimmers. Every age group improved their times dramatically and their training is defiantly paying off. I replaced the best times of the year for 75 percent of all the swimmers,”
said head coach Chris Brooks.
CYSS swimmers Kirstyn Andrews, Koryne Andrews, Brian Cooke, Kristen Cooke, Noah Dowd, Madison Dunn, Kali Fillhart, Ja’maya Hunt, Joel Kreider, Timothy Kreider, George Mitrovic and Sinonia all swam fantastic and dropped at least 5 seconds in one or more events.
“This is great to see such large time drops for only the second meet of the year,” said assistant coach Lori Rosie.
Eli Dowd, Sadie Fillhart, Jack Godwin, Marshall Hawkins, Jordan Lee, Cara Rosie, Danielle Williams and Katlyn Widner all had times drops around 3 seconds.
“Practicing five days week for the older kids, and four days for the younger ones, is starting to show,” he said. “We try to swim quality yards rather than the quantity of yards during this time of the year. When January comes around we will start to drop yardage and their times will start to drop even more.”
Assistant Coach Ben Torgesen said, “We have a lot of season left, we make sure the kids work hard and it is starting to show. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season hold for the kids.”
