WINDSOR—Windsor senior Oris Bowers leveled the Nandua defense with two touchdowns and 110 yards on 17 carries to help the Dukes to a 31-0 victory on Friday.

The Dukes rushed for 243 yards on 52 carries against the Warrior defense to move to 2-0 on the season for the first time in Chuck Parrish’s tenure.

The visibly happy coach chalked up the strong start to teamwork.

“It’s a big win for us,” Parrish said. “Our guys are playing together and they’re playing like a family.”

Both teams got off to a slow start on offense, the Duke offense sputtered during its first two drives of the game and the Warriors went three-and-out for three straight drives and had negative yards offensively by the time the first quarter ended.

The Dukes broke the scoreless tie with an 11-play drive that spanned 6:57 and culminated with a seven-yard scamper by Bowers with 7:02 left in the second quarter. A pass from Justice Chapman to Caleb Dundlow put the Dukes up 8-0.

Nandua and Windsor would trade punts on the ensuing possession before Windsor senior Chris Stepp intercepted a Zachary Synder pass in the final seconds before the half.

The Dukes went 60 yards in seven plays to open the third quarter. Windsor reached the end-zone on a four-yard scamper by Bowers. Chapman connected with Dundlow once again to put the Dukes up 16-0.

The ensuing Warrior drive stalled and the Dukes drove down the field following the Warriors’ punt. The ensuing Duke drive stalled deep in Nandua territory at the 10-yard line.

The Dukes scored on a safety after the snap went over the head of the Nandua punter after a Warrior Drive stalled on the 7-yard line.

The Dukes took an 18-0 lead with 51 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Duke freshman Caleb Dundlow returned the ensuing kickoff back 62 yards to add the WHS lead. Kicker Eli Tratham added the extra point to put the Dukes up 25-0 with 44 seconds remaining in the quarter.

With 10:11 left in the fourth quarter, Stepp would add a two-yard run for a touchdown. Stratham missed the extra point this time and the Dukes would win the game 31-0.

The Dukes offensive output came almost exclusively through its rushing attack. Chapman gained 77 yards on 12 carries, Dundlow chipped in with 26 yards on 12 carries. Avery Miller rounds out the ground attack with a healthy 31 yards on six carries.

WHS hosts Southampton High School next week and Parrish said the players would be ready for what is expected to be a physical match up.

“There are still things we need to correct and we’re going to work on getting better overall,” Parrish said. “We got a tough one next week. Southampton is a good football team.”
