WINDSOR—The most successful volleyball campaign in a number of years at Windsor High School came to an abrupt end on Monday.

The Lady Dukes lost a first round Group A Region A Division 2 playoff match to Middlesex High School 3-1.

The final scores were Middlesex 25-20, Windsor 25-18, Middlesex 25-10 and Middlesex 25-13.

The Lady Dukes ended the season at 20-3.

&uot;We just didn’t play a good third and fourth game,&uot; said Windsor head coach Jeff Burchette. &uot;We were waiting for other people to get it done. They were a good team. We didn’t play as well as we were capable of. We didn’t serve well the last two games.&uot;

Last Saturday, Windsor won the Tri-Rivers District tournament. The Dukes defeated Sussex Central 25-14, 25-6, 25-12 in the semifinals and then went on to beat Franklin 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23 in the finals. Windsor had not won a district championship in volleyball since 1993.

Burchette said the Lady Dukes did not give up after falling to Franklin in the first game.

&uot;We were determined not to lose. This team has a lot of heart,&uot; he said. &uot;The first game worked them up. Usually the first game determines how it’s going to go, but they didn’t

get down on themselves.&uot;

Windsor’s Courtney Vick was named the Tri-Rivers District Player of the Year. She had 19 aces, six blocks, five digs and 11 kills in the tournament. Burchette was named the Tri-Rivers District Coach of the Year.

Burchette, in his first year as head coach, reflected on his team’s season.

&uot;I’m very proud of what we accomplished. I hate that we ended the season not playing the way we were capable,&uot; he said.
