SUFFOLK—Steven Lynn Brenwalt, 37, died Nov. 4, 2007, surrounded by his family in Sentara Bayside Hospital after a long and courageous fight with liver disease.

Mr. Brenwalt was born in Suffolk Dec. 18, 1969, and lived in Carrollton. He was preceded in death by his loving grandfather, James C. “Buddy” Heath.

Survivors include his parents, Betty and Curtiss Johnson of Carrollton; sister, Michelle Phillips and husband Robbie of Zuni; special nephew, Chase “Chaseman” Phillips who knew him as “Bubba;” grandmothers, Gladys Heath of Smithfield and Joyce Johnson of Suffolk; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and countless friends.

He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church. All who knew him loved him. Throughout his life, Steven had several serious health problems which intensified in the past seven years, but he always had a positive attitude, a warm smile and a sincere willingness to help others.

He loved hunting in Courtland at Davis Ridley Hunt Club, fishing with family and friends, and being a volunteer in area rescue and fire organizations.

He was a past member of Nansemond- Suffolk Rescue Squad, Bennett’s Creek Rescue Squad, Franklin Fire and Rescue and Holland Volunteer Fire Department. He was awed for his strength as he faced adversity and everyone learned not to underestimate his willpower through his many bouts at the hospital.

His family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Jacqueline Salcedo of Virginia Beach and Dr. V. Luketic of MCV, Richmond, and the wonderful nursing staff on the third floor at Sentara Bayside Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion provided.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. today in Berea Christian Church (UCC), 4109 Driver Lane, Suffolk, by the Rev. Sallye A. Hardy. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, followed by a reception at the church.

Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett’s Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nansemond- Suffolk Rescue Squad. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
