FRANKLIN—Franklin senior golfer Tony Bland shot a 43 to hand Tri-Rivers District leader Jared Latham from Sussex his first loss of the season.

Bland’s showing also led the Broncos to a first-place finish during Tuesday’s home match at Cypress Cove Country Club, giving Franklin a 9-0 season record.

“Tony has been working on his game,” said Bronco Coach David Lease. “He’s been chipping and putting in his yard. When he goes to the golf course, he works on what he needs to work on.”

“Every one struggled today except Tony Bland, who posted his best round of the year due in part to his consistent putting and quality approach shots,” added Windsor Coach Broc Smith.

Latham, who took second with a 46, won the first six tournaments and was the district’s Player of the Year in 2010 as a junior.

Franklin finished with a 206, Sussex 222 and Windsor 232.

Other placers were Chelsea Kaleita, Surry 49; Aaron Ashby, Windsor 50; Cody Reese, Windsor 51; Grant Scarboro, Franklin 51; Zack Hopkins, Franklin 53; Jacob Pitman, Sussex 55; Sean Dejiacomo, Windsor 59; and Tevin Sumblin, Franklin 59.
