WILLIAMSBURG—When Southampton High School traveled to Warhill Friday night, one team was going to end its four-game losing streak.
For Southampton, that streak ended with a 35-13 win over Warhill, the first-year school situated across the James River.
The win raised the Indians’ record to 1-4 overall, 1-3 in the Bay Rivers District. Warhill fell to 0-5 in both categories.
The Indians ran the ball for 279 yards and jumped out to a 21-7 lead with touchdowns by Bobby Ellsworth on a 27-yard run, Andre Rawls’ 42-yard interception return and Sidney Rawls’ 58-yard run.
Leonard Peterson scored on a 25-yard run and Taylor Revelle capped the scoring by catching a 36-yard pass from Sidney Rawls.
Southampton did not score in the fourth quarter, nor did it need to.
In addition to the 279 rushing yards, the Indians threw for 48 yards, all but 12 of those on the score to Revelle.
Sidney Rawls rushed seven times for 93 yards and Peterson ran 12 times for 88 yards. But Anthony Brooks may have had the best night running. In his first game running the ball this year, the 6-foot-2, 255-pound Brooks ran 10 times for 48 yards.
Southampton hosts Bruton Friday at 7:30.
