Catherine F. Daughtrey

FRANKLIN—Catherine Tillery “Kitty” Daughtrey, 83, widow of Thomas Edwin Daughtrey Sr., died Sept. 26, 2007.
Mrs. Daughtrey was born in Kelford, N.C., a daughter of the late David Linwood and Lessie Taylor Tillery. Kitty, as she was known to her family and friends, was a member of Sedley Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies’ Bible Class and a former member of the Lessie Tillery Circle and Adult Choir for many years.
She also served in other various offices in her years of membership.
Kitty was employed in 1948 by Hunter Scott of Scott Construction Company as a bookkeeper where she worked for over 20 years. At age 48, she became a fulltime homemaker and enjoyed her years at home as such.
She was a quiet-mannered Christian lady who in her healthy adult years enjoyed trips with Tommy and other family members to the Outer Banks, the Amish Country, the mountains, and Florida. She loved her family and her church family as well.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Daughtrey Simmons and husband Warren of Courtland; her son, Thomas E. Daughtrey Jr. of Chesapeake; two sisters, Elleise T. Hancock of Sedley, Lessie T. Edwards of Franklin; one brother, Thomas Cecil Tillery of Sedley; son-in-law, Tom Reed; three grandchildren, Stephen A. Simmons and wife, Annette, Michael Daughtrey, and Christopher Reed.
She
was predeceased by a daughter, Dianne D. Reed; three sisters, Marie T. Hancock, Beatrice T. Halsey, Beverly T. Johnson; and William H. Tillery, Hubert C. Tillery, and Julian D. Tillery.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m Saturday at Sedley Baptist Church with the Rev. Armand Jalbert officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Sedley Baptist Church Building Fund or the Dianne Daughtrey Reed Scholarship Fund for the Southampton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
