Could Isle of Wight Academy finally have a challenge this week?
The Chargers travel to Farmville undefeated Fuqua School to play what could be their toughest Virginia Commonwealth Conference opponent this season.
The Chargers, also undefeated at 4-0, travel to Fuqua for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Chargers bombed Brunswick Academy last Friday 41-3, while Fuqua was disposing of Tidewater Academy 42-7. Fuqua’s closest game so far this season has been a 32-14 win over Southampton Academy.
The two teams are not strangers. You’d better believe Isle of Wight has a target on its back after beating Fuqua (5-0) for the state championship last year.
IWA coach Dale Chapman said his team was going to work at “game speed” this week.
“We are going to try to make sure all our guys are hustling. We are going to do a lot of coaching, a lot more than we have done so far,” he said. “It’s going to be tough playing the state runner up.”
Chapman said he will use information from the two matchups the teams had last year.
“We are going with what we saw last year. Hopefully we will get them as prepared as we can,” he said. “If I don’t give them the right information, then I am not doing my job.”
In other action this weekend, undefeated Franklin (3-0) travels to West Point for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
-Southampton (0-3) will host Grafton at 7:30 p.m. in a Bay Rivers District contest.
