WINDSOR-King William jumped out to a 13-0 lead and held on to beat Windsor 19-12 in a non-district game Friday night.
Windsor’s Brooklyn Presson ran for a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Layfette Murphy rushed for a 37-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to cut the King William (1-2) lead to 13-12, but the extra point pass failed.
With two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, Windsor (2-2) was driving, but lost the ball on a fumble.
For the Windsor offense, quarterback Kwamane Harris was 7-for-13 for 111 yards. Murphy rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries and Taury Pittman had 50 yards on eight carries. The Dukes had 274 total yards of offense.
Bruce Carroll, Windsor head coach, expected a struggle despite King William's 0-2 record coming into the game.
&uot;They got beat by Caroline, a pretty good AA school, and beat by Essex, and were leading them and lost the lead,&uot; he said. &uot;They are a solid team. We played well at times on defense. We weren't aggressive or as physical as I like to be.&uot;
The Dukes host Washington and Lee at 7 p.m. Friday.
