SMITHFIELD—Windsor placed three golfers in the top five during a Tri-Rivers District tournament on Tuesday when Sussex handed Franklin its first loss of the season.
“We didn’t play well at all,” said Franklin Coach David Lease. ”Windsor played very well, but we had an off day. That’s how golf is. We have good days and bad days.”
The difference between the first- and third-place teams was eight shots, with Sussex scoring a 206, Franklin 211 and Windsor 214. The loss at Cypress Creek Golfers’ Club in Smithfield gives the Broncos a 12-1 record.
Jarad Latham of Sussex won with a 45 followed by Sean Dejiacomo of Windsor 47, Aaron Ashby of Windsor 48, Chelsea Kaleita of Surry 48, Cody Reese of Windsor 49, Donald Vann of Surry 49, Grant Scarboro of Franklin 49, Tony Bland of Franklin 52, Jacob Pittman of Sussex 52 and Dashawn Gay of Sussex 52.
“I’m very pleased with how Windsor performed,” said Duke Coach Broc Smith. “It was the first time all year that the top three golfers were in the 40s, which gave us a chance to win. Each of my top three golfers have been in a position to be the medalist at least once this year. I can’t ask for much more as a coach.”
