She attended the Zuni School before its closure, and graduated from Windsor High School in 1940.
She attended Richmond Professional Institute for two years, and subsequently attended the Medial College of Virginia School of Nursing.
While there, she met her future husband and they were married in 1944. During World War II, she was a Navy wife and was with her husband at Camp Peary, as well as Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland.
After World War II, the couple returned to Zuni, VA and Dr. Strickland opened a dental practice in his late father-in-law’s then empty general store.
Mrs. Strickland worked with her husband for 43 years as the office manager and a dental assistant.
She was baptized and married in Bethany Presbyterian Church. She was a youth leader, circle member and leader, and for several decades an adult women’s Sunday school class teacher.
She also served on several Presbytery wide committees.

She was on the Girl Scout Council for the Suffolk area.
With her husband, she served on several Red Cross Committees.
“Miss Charlotte”, as her younger friends often called her, was an avid and serious reader.

Her greatest passion, however, was for her family.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Drs. June and Cliff Henderson of Williamsburg; two grandsons, Colin Earle Henderson, and his wife Abbie Hattauer
