WAKEFIELD—Late in the fourth quarter against Blessed Sacrament Huguenot here Friday night, the Tidewater Academy Warriors were down 37n0.

But they had not thrown in the towel.

A flea-flicker play in which Warrior quarterback Chris Grammer lateraled the ball to Casey Gay, who then threw a pass to Ferley Yerby, resulted in the deepest drive of the game for the Warriors.

The play was good for 35 yards and put the ball on the Knights’ 1-yard line. From there, Grammer carried it over the goal line on a keeper. The Warriors went for two and scored to put the score at 37n8.

But this was too little, too late, and the Knights on their next possession scored again to ice the game at 44-8.

Warrior Coach Adam Thacker praised his team for not giving up and fighting to the very end.

&uot;We are young and still growing,&uot; said the first-year coach, who stated that the team’s two previous losses this year have been close.

In comments to the team, he stated, &uot;Let’s put this one behind us and look forward to our game next week.&uot;

Tidewater, 0-3, travels to Chincoteague on Friday.
