Leroy Turner

OXON HILL, Md.—Leroy Turner, 63, of the 1400 block of Iverson Street, died Aug. 28, 2007.

He was born July 29, 1944 to the late Robert L. Turner and the late Easter M. Turner in Capron.

Mr. Turner was the third child of the Turner family that grew up in Capron and received his education from Capron Public School and Riverview High School in Courtland.

In 1965, he moved to Washington, D.C. and was married to Eula Paige Turner and from this union three children were born.

Upon to his move the Washington metropolitan area, he worked as a baker at Wonder Bread Bakery and Giant Bakery until his retirement. Although he was a hard worker, he was a very friendly person and never met a stranger.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie L. Turner and Elder Melvin Turner; and one sister, Ruby Turner.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy Turner Jr. of Heatville, Va. and Timothy Turner (Pam) of Washington; one daughter, Annette Hooper (Tyrone) of Calla, Va.; one sister, Mary Katherine Riddick and one brother-in-law, Haywood Riddick, both of Danville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; one uncle; four aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral was to be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ, Newsoms.

Engram Funeral Home, Franklin, was in charge of arrangements.
