BELVIDERE, N.C.—Ruth Winslow Layden, 92, of the 100 block of Perry’s Bridge Road, died Aug. 16, 2007, in Brian Center Health and Rehab, Hertford, N.C.
Mrs. Layden was born in Perquimans County and was one of 10 children born to the late Charlie Thomas and Mae White Winslow.
A homemaker, she was a member of Piney Woods Friends Meeting, had formerly served as a Sunday school teacher and had been active in the Adult Choir and the Women’s Missionary Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Oliver Layden Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Ruth Ann Riddick and husband Calvin of Smithfield, Betty Lois Lane of Orlando, Fla. and Marvis Parrish and husband Leroy of Belvidere; four sons, James O. “Teny” Layden Jr. and wife Avis of Belvidere, Wesley E. Layden Sr. and wife Shirley of Hobbsville, N.C., Millard T. “Shorty” Layden Sr. and wife Carolyn of Tyner, N.C. and Kenneth Ray Layden Sr. and wife Doris of Belvidere; a sister, Clara Hendren of Tyner; two brothers, Ernest Melvin Winslow of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Clinton Ray Winslow of Hertford; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Sunday in Piney Woods Friends Meeting by Pastor Frank Carter and the Rev. Don English.
Burial followed in Up River Cemetery.
Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, N.C. was in charge of arrangements.
