What’s the best part of your day? Rising at the break of day, walking with good friends and experiencing God’s marvelous morning sky filled with stars (sometimes shooting), gazing at the moon and listening to the wonder sounds of nature

If you could select another profession, what would you do? I’d like to teach disabled children.

Why do you choose to live in Franklin/Southampton/Isle of Wight County? I married a handsome farmer from Isle of Wight County, and I love living in the country.

If you had two weeks’ vacation and money were no object, how would you spend your time? I’d love to go back to Alaska.

Favorite food: Old Fashion Homemade Chocolate fudge like my Mama use to cook

Favorite weekend destination: A weekend get-a-way down by the riverside, and boat riding with the blue sky above, looking at the glassy, mirrored picture of the tree limbs filled with green leaves reflecting upon the surface of the glistening, sunlit water in front of the boat, leaving behind a trail of ripples and waves

What’s the best life lesson you’ve learned, and who taught you? Not to be so sentimental about material things such as wedding gifts. I learned this from not only the Bible but in real life by the person that robbed our home when we were first married and stole a wedding gift that was from a dear departed neighbor.

What’s the best decision you’ve made in life? I decided to live my life happy, by loving everyone and laughing a lot.

Which local charitable or non-profit organization do you wish more people would support? Mental health

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know. I still have my one-eyed childhood Teddy Bear.

What’s your hobby? Actually, I have two: squirrel hunting, and writing poetry

What gives you the blues? Listening to a sad country music song on the radio

What’s your best childhood memory? Dressing up in my Mama’s clothes, slipping on her high heeled shoes, lavished with all sorts of jewelry, smearing on her lipstick and walking proudly down the street with my two little girlfriend look-a-likes

What frightens you most? Tornadoes in Memphis, Tenn., at a barbecue cookoff

If you could pass or change one law, what would it be? That prayer be publicly allowed anywhere at anytime

What last brought tears to your eyes? A sad movie (I’m very tenderhearted)

What kind of music do you like, and who’s your favorite performer? I love all kinds of music-from gospel to rock ’n roll to bluegrass, and I love music that is bouncy and has a peppy beat that makes you want to just move your body. My favorite performer is a toss-up between “listening” to Willie Nelson sing love songs or watching and listening to Elvis Presley singing hymns.

Tell us about a good movie you’ve seen lately and why you liked it: I watched the Disney movie “Summer of the Monkeys,” and I liked it because there is a good lesson in life to be learned about caring for others.

What’s the last book you read? “Girls Will Be Girls” to our darling grandchildren
