Southampton wins Southside District opener 3-1

GREENSVILLE—Southampton High School defeated Greensville 3-1 during Tuesday’s Southside District season opener.

The Lady Indians’ overall record improved to 8-0 while their district record is 1-0.

Southampton’s scores were 21-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-10.

Greensville’s Morgan Crewe challenged the Lady Indians with 18 kills and two blocks.

“I knew Morgan was going to be good,” said Southampton Coach Chad Brock. “She hit from everywhere on the floor.”

“We were caught off guard with how much the rest of the team has improved,” Brock added. “They were digging everything and had a good game plan. We came out flat

again and had to pick up the pace and adjust our game plan. Once we figured out what they were doing we started to gain some momentum and play at a higher level.”

For the Indians, Madison Cabell went 10-10 for serving with one ace, eight kills, three blocks and eight digs. Marisa Cabell had three aces, 11 kills, five blocks, seven digs; Candace Earls, 17 assists, five digs; Madeleine Kahle, five aces, seven kills, one block;

Kaylee Edwards, 18-18 serving with five aces, four kills, three blocks, two digs; Grayson Drake, seven assists, two blocks; and Claire Cogsdale, six assists, two digs.

For Greensville, Amanda Earp had 16 assists, went 18-18 for serving with two aces and

Maci Clements had eight assists.

Southampton’s junior varsity squad won 25-19, 25-19, and was led by Sam Billups with seven aces, three assists and four kills.
