COURTLAND—Southampton County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a possible telephone scam.

Last week, a resident received a phone call from a male subject who identified himself as the resident’s grandson. When resident asked who it was, the caller hung up.

The same resident received the same type of phone call about two years ago, with a male subject calling and identifying himself as the resident’s grandson. The caller said he had been arrested in Canada and needed money for bond.

The caller requested the resident to send just under $3,000 via Western Union to the grandson’s attorney in Canada.

The resident became suspicious, called family members and found out that the call was a scam.

Anyone having a similar experience is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 653-2100.
