Alma C. Butler

SUFFOLK—Alma Crocker Butler, 84, of Reid’s Ferry , Godwin Boulevard, died July 6, 2007.

She was born June 26, 1923, in Isle of Wight County, to the late Minnie and Zacariah S. Crocker.

Mrs. Butler was retired from the Obici School of Nursing as a housemother. She worked for more than 40 years with the school and Obici Hospital, where she started in September 1951, when it opened. Most people will remember her working in the third floor nursery.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 64 years, Cola M. Butler; brothers, Edward and Clyde Crocker and sister, Anne C. Faison.

Survivors include her daughters, Faye Butler Daniels and her husband Frank Daniels Jr. of Suffolk and Sandra E. Butler of Newport News; son, Larry M. Butler and wife Sandra B. Butler of Suffolk; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Daniels of South Carolina, Amy Amon of Virginia Beach and Ashley Butler of Windsor; three great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews; and family friends, Betty Faison and Mary Ann Gray.

A funeral will be conducted today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Christian Church, Chuckatuck, by the Rev. Mark Burns with burial in Newman Memorial Cemetery, there at the church.

The family will reside at the Godwin Boulevard residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Becky Godwin Scholarship Fund at Oakland Christian Church,
