Clara W. Jones

SMITHFIELD—Clara Estelle West Jones, 74, died June 28, 2007, in Sentara Obici Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Jones was born in Nansemond County and had been a Smithfield resident most of her life. She was a member of Surry Baptist Church and attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she will be remembered as a great cook who enjoyed vegetable gardening and canning.
She enjoyed reaching out in her community and being the caregiver to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Winfred Jones.
Survivors include her children, William &uot;Billy&uot; and wife Shirley of Smithfield, Margaret J. Zerick of Windsor and Virginia Ann Thompson of Smithfield; her grandchildren, Robert Johnson, Tracey Tuttle and C.J. Thompson IV; four great-grandchildren; and her brother, William Thomas West of Suffolk.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday in St. Luke’s Memorial Park with the Rev. Will Montgomery officiating.
Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, was in charge of arrangements.
