WINDSOR—A well-cultivated backyard garden can attract the attention of folks from all around. Whether for its beauty or its fruits, such a patch can be the focal point of a neighborhood and the pride of its owners.
A lush and green garden in Windsor attracted more attention than had been desired last week, though, when a father and son were arrested after a police search turned up 5-foot-tall marijuana plants.
The plants, which &uot;appeared to be well taken care of,&uot; could have produced up to a pound of pot apiece, according to Sgt. M.R. Kitchen of the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office. &uot; The plants were in a very good stage of growth for this early in the summer,&uot; Kitchen said.
Kitchen and Deputy P. Jernigan, along with Virginia State Police troopers, executed a search warrant Saturday at the Peanut Drive home of 48-year-old David J. Lonsdale Sr. in Windsor.
In addition to the marijuana plants, police found more pot inside the home. They charged Lonsdale with a felony county of manufacturing marijuana, as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of stolen property. He was later released on bond, pending a trial.
Also arrested was his son, 19-year-old David J. Lonsdale Jr., who was charged with possession of marijuana. He was taken to Western Tidewater Regional Jail and held without bond.
