Lambda Psi Omega holds Cotillion Ball

COURTLAND—The Lambda Psi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held its

bi-annual Debutante Ball on June 2 in the Southampton High School Auditorium and Commons Area, the seven debutantes were presented to the theme, “Extraordinary Special Pearls,” and were formally introduced with their fathers, then received by their escorts.

The beautiful young ladies of junior or senior high school status, dressed in flowing white gowns and matching elbow length gloves, and their handsomely dressed escorts performed choreographed ballroom selections.

The evening’s highlight was the crowning of Miss Cotillion 2007, Cortney Seaborne of Greensville High School in Emporia. She is the daughter of Vanessa Seaborne and Emmit Ivey.

First runner-up was Jaleesha Carter of King’s Fork High school in Suffolk. She is the daughter of Mrs. Rodney Brown and Billy Carter; second runner-up was Natasha Butler of Southampton High School.

She is the daughter of Minister Carole Butler.

Other debutantes were Brittany Mabry of Southampton High School, daughter of

Gilbert and Juanita Mabry;

Alyson Wright of Southampton High School, daughter of Ellis and Virginia Wright; Templest Jolley of Franklin High School, daughter of Edward and Tammy Jolley;

Shantrice Wood of Franklin High School, daughter of Katrina Moses and Rodney Perkins.

Each debutante presented her mother with a bouquet of long stemmed pink roses and enjoyed a delightful waltz with her father.

Courtnee Edgerston, 2005 Miss Cotillion, crowned the new 2007 Miss Cotillion, Cortney Seaborne, for raising the most funds to be used for college scholarships.

Prior to the Cotillion Ball, the debutantes participated in nine months of various educational, cultural, leadership, financial, glamour and social activities.

Categorical awards were presented to the debutantes for various attainments.

Former debutantes, Norletta Vaughan, Sherita Holoman, Traci Rose, Cherese Parker, Martina Rawlings, Alista Harris, Sherita Bynum, Alexa Harris, Joronda Baxter, Courtnee Edgerston, Sha’Tara Kindred, Chiquita King and Erika Wright were reunited and presented during the program.

Cotillion co-chairpersons were Alfreda Talton-Harris and Sitrina Bynum. Diane Harris is chapter president.
