COURTLAND—Craig Beale tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts to lead Southampton Academy to a 10-0 win over Amelia Academy in a Virginia Commonwealth Conference baseball game Monday. The game was shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.

Beale sent the Senior Day crowd home happy with his pitching performance and also drove in three runs on the day, including a two-run single to left field to break the game open in the second inning.

Caleb Pearson was 2-for-2 and cracked a two-run opposite field homerun in the first inning.

&uot; That was his first homerun of the year. We have been waiting for him to hit a ball like that. He is starting to come around,&uot; said head coach Tim Lass.

Lee Bain went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs with a single to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.

&uot; The kids played good defense and swung the bat well. It was an overall good performance,&uot; Lass said.

SA is still ranked number one in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association poll at 15-1 and 13-1 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.

If the Raiders beat Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Wednesday on the road, they

clinch first place in the VCC.

SA finishes out the regular season on the road at Richmond Christian and will host a first round VCC tournament game next Tuesday.

The only team SA has lost to this season is VCC rival Tidewater Academy.
