COURTLAND—Emma Laverne Britt Seaborn, 54, of Flaggy Run Road, Courtland, departed this life June 24, 2010, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Laverne was born July 27, 1955, in Southampton County to Willie and Narcissus Harris Britt.
Laverne was a member of O’Berry A.M.E. Zion Church.
A 1973 graduate of Franklin High School, she majored in human services at Piedmont Community College.
For many years, Laverne was employed at Southampton Memorial Hospital. In August 2002, she became a mental health counselor at Western Tidewater Community Services Board and remained there until her health failed in June 2007.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Melvin Britt, George Britt and Willie Britt III.
Laverne is survived by her faithful companion, James H. Wright of Franklin; daughter, Rashona Seaborn of Franklin; grandchildren Justin T. and Jalen T. Boone, both of Franklin; sisters Ruby Brown, Ann Ellison (Willie), Virginia Lawson (Billy), Josephine Martin (James), Cora Caldwell, Sylvia Britt-Bowers (Anthony), Mary Britt and Barbara C. Brennan; sister-in-law Hallie Britt; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A service honoring the life and legacy of Laverne will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at O’Berry A.M.E. Zion Church, 31490 O’Berry Church Road, Franklin. The Rev. Earva Sumblin will deliver the message; the Rev. Dale Seaborn is the pastor.
On the day of service, Laverne’s remains will be placed in church for viewing by 9 a.m.
A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home at 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
