James P. Bradshaw
FRANKLIN—James Percy “J.P.” Bradshaw, 90, widower of Diana Thomas Bradshaw, died May 24, 2010, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
He was born in Isle of Wight County, a son of the late Percy Eley and Nancy Jane Edwards Bradshaw, and was predeceased by a son, Richard “Ricky” Bradshaw, two sisters, Gladys B. Edwards and Mary Louise B. Johnson, and one brother, Howard Richard Bradshaw.
He was a retired farmer and a member of High Street United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bradshaw was a Staff Sergeant during WWII, assigned to the 45th Division, 179th Infantry of the U. S. Army. He participated in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Southern France, and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Diana B. Shockley (Barry) of Virginia Beach; one son, James E. “Jeb” Bradshaw (Wanda) of Courtland; daughter-in-law, Cathy A. Bradshaw of Courtland; five grandchildren, Michelle S. Burch (Jeremy), Michael B. Shockley (Robin), Shane I. Bradshaw, Jaime L. Bradshaw, and Brigitte B. Bradshaw; and one great-grandchild, Gabrielle Turner.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
