Irene W. Smith, 84, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born Southampton County, VA, to Augustus and Margie Whitehead, she was a graduate of Newsoms High School, class of 1941. Irene was a member of New Beginnings Christian Church in Tampa, FL. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Frank) Vega of San Francisco, CA and Nancy (Wayne) Medley of Nashville, TN from her marriage to Thomas C. Cutchins Jr.; and daughter Cynthia (Kevin) Duval of Ft. Wayne, IN and stepson Robert (Virginia) Smith from her marriage to Howard C. Smith. Her family extends to 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Sally Whitehead and Blanche Whitehead both of VA. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; both spouses; and brothers Arthur, Wallace, Vann, and Delbert.. Service is 10:00 AM, May 22, 2010 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4207 E. Lake Ave., Tampa, FL with calling one hour prior to service. Rev. Kevin Duval officiating. Calling also at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
