John E. Stivers
RICHMOND—John Ellwood “Steve,” 81, passed away April 30, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Lydia J. Stivers; his granddaughter, Brandy L. Stivers; two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his son, Jerry L. Stivers (Michelle) of Joyner, Va.; daughter, Sherry Krajnock of Maryland; stepson, Blaine Bristol of Richmond; two stepdaughters, Kerri Lard (Ken) of Advance, N.C., and Loren Des Autels (Chris) of Richmond; grandson, Davis Stivers; four stepgrandsons, Carter Frick, Joey Lard, Cole and Jarred Ransom; two stepgranddaughters, Christina Kibby and Rebecca Lard; four brothers and a sister; and a devoted friend, Audrey Vogen.
Mr. Stivers served four years as a Marine in the Korean Conflict, was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. After being discharged from service, he had a 30-year career as a truck driver. Upon retiring, he enjoyed “hanging out” with the Joyner Hunt Club gang, fishing, gardening and helping others. He loved his family, his friends and his fellow Marines. John was a big man but his heart was even bigger.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the Chapel of the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. Bliley’s – Chippenham in charge of arrangements.
