Tidewater Academy advances in softball playoffs

Tidewater Academy, looking to re-peat as state champions, advanced to the semifinals of the Virginia Independent Schools Division 3 softball playoff s with a 10-0 victory Tuesday over Carlisle School of Martinsville.

The top-seeded Lady Warriors advanced to Thursday’s semifinals in Petersburg against fourth-seeded Broadwater Academy. Results were not available at press time.

The winner of that game will play in today’s state championship game. Winning pitcher Taylor Warner, who is 8-2, struck out 8 and gave up 2 hits.

Losing pitcher Krista Frazier struck out 4 and allowed 6 hits Tuesday. For Tidewater, Marianna Stephen-son went 2-for-3, including a double and triple and scored 2 runs. Stephenson also had 1 RBI and a stolen base.

Teammate Taylor Warner also went 2-for-3, scoring 1 run, 1 RBI and getting 1 stolen base. Hayes Holdsworth hit a two-run homer and stole 1 base.

The Lady Warriors scored 4 runs in the first, 1 in the second and 5 runs in the fourth inning on 6 hits and no errors.

Carlisle had 3 hits.

Tidewater Academy’s record stands at 18-2.
