Holland offended resident during candidate forum

To the Editor:
I have read over the responses to the Southampton County sheriff’s debate, and it seems to be more hotly contested than the Board of Supervisors.
The reason for this, I think, is the stance that Mr. David Holland took against the citizens and Sheriff’s Office of this county. I was appalled sitting in the audience that night and hearing some of the information coming from him.
Our deputies are not afraid to go anywhere. Our department is not full of good ole boys! His ideas may be good for Fairfax and not what is best for us here. I did not like being looked down upon in the condescending attitude that he took.
I am a citizen of this county with family here and friends. We do not need an outsider coming and taking charge and, in my opinion, ruining a good and worthwhile system.
Mr. Holland, I don’t know if you are going to read this or not, but your remarks have pushed many who may have supported you away. It pains me to see the way you tried to play the deputies as bad guys! It pains me to see the way you looked down upon our citizens and families of this county.
I will not vote for you next month because our county deserves better than being told we are not up to your standards.
