Jerry O. Hawkins

Franklin – Jerry Oliver Hawkins, 52, died February 9, 2010 at his residence after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Kinston, NC, the son of the late O. K. and Mavis Bennett Hawkins, and was a longtime flooring contractor. Jerry was an avid race car driver in his 69 Camero and enjoyed riding his Harley with his wife Debbie. He was most proud of his first place trophy at Suffolk Raceway for his 69 Camero, Best in Show.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Debbie Hawkins; his daughter, Pamela H. Whitehead (Jay) of Florida; six sisters, Patricia, Barbara, Shelby, Joyce, Penny, and Harriet; and his two pets, Pebbles and Lacey.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be at 11 am Saturday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Jackie Wilkie officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Thomas Palliative Care Unit, 401 College Street, Richmond, Va. 23298-0037.
