Thomas J. Edmond
COURTLAND—Thomas J. Edmond, affectionately known as “Butte” died suddenly Nov. 2, 2009.
He was born to the late Samuel Edmond Sr. and Louise Parker Edmond on March 10, 1936.
Mr. Edmond was preceded in death by three sisters, Essie Fitzgerald, Lillian Lamb and Emily Kelly.
He was educated in the Sussex County Public Schools. He was a member of the Plank Road Baptist Church and chairman of the Trustee Board. He was owner and operator of Edmond Trucking Company.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Hazel Moore Edmond; four daughters, Maria Baines, Marguerite Johnson (Wayne), Kimberly Walton (Darryl) and Kelley Conaway (Morris); one son, TyRon Edmond; two brothers, Samuel Edmond Jr. (Jeanette) and J. Lafayette Edmond Sr. (Ethel); four sisters, Dorothy Boyd, Louise Phillips, Katherine Edmond and Greer Mack; four sisters-in-law, Mary Leach, Lula Wilson, Lorine Owens and Gladys Baines; one brother-in-law, John Moore (Ellen); five grandsons, Torré Winfield, Wayne Johnson II, Colin Johnson, Terrell Johnson and Treyon Conaway; two great- grandchildren, Aeysia and Wayne Johnson III; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Sussex Central High School, 21302 Sussex Drive, Sussex, with the Rev. Calvin Lewis, pastor of Plank Road Baptist Church, officiating.
The interment will be in the Waverly Cemetery.
He may be viewed at William N. Bland Funeral Home, Petersburg, today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The family will assemble at the Edmond Trucking Company, 13490 Jerusalem Plank Road, Waverly, at 10:30 a.m.
