Hurley Moncus
WINDSOR—Hurley Moncus, 76, died Oct. 14, 2009, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Born in Alabama, he was the son of the late Paul and Zonie M. Moncus.
Mr. Moncus retired from the Air Force and had owned and operated Economy Upholstery.
He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church. Music was a great part of his life and he and his wife were known for their gospel singing. He was also a fiddle player, playing with many musicians in the Tidewater area, and at the age of 22 was the World Champion Fiddle Player.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn J. Moncus; sisters, Ruby Richardson and Maxine Thompson, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brother, Benny Moncus of Tennessee.
A memorial service was to be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Windsor Baptist Church by the Rev. Bryan Brooks and the Rev. Dr. Donald Rhoton.
