E.B. Gayle Jr.
FRANKLIN—E.B. Gayle Jr., 81, died Oct. 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born in Franklin, a son of the late Elezer Benjamin and Iona Joyner Gayle, and was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Burkett Blythe Gayle and a brother, Talmadge Gayle.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was retired from the maintenance department of Union Camp Corp. as a pipe fitter and was a member of the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Gayle was renown in the area for the building of model homes of personal and historic value that usually took a year to complete, many of which he gave away.
Survivors include his son, Perry Gayle of Cary, N.C.; two brothers, Wesley C. Gayle and Charles R. Gayle, both of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. James Smith officiating.
Interment, with military honors, will follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and suggests memorials be made to Grace Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 73, Sedley, VA 23878 or Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, 18080 Johnsons Mill Road, Sedley, VA 23878.
