NEW YORK—Rommie Otis Lawrence, 86, died Oct. 4, 2009, at Jewish Home and Hospital in New York City, following a long illness.
Mr. Lawrence was born and raised in North Carolina, the son of Fred and Daisey (Joyner) Lawrence; he was a lifelong resident of New York City.
He was employed by Erb Strapping Inc. for many years until his retirement. He worked part-time as a security guard after his retirement.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid billard player at Wagner Housing Senior Citizen Center, where he was the envy of his fellow players.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 68 years, Florence (Cooper) Lawrence; two sons, Donald Lawrence (Paulette) and Rommie Otis Lawrence Jr.; two daughters, Evelyn Lawrence of Franklin and Carolyn Washington; two brothers, John Lawrence (Louise) and Henderson Lawrence; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Vaughan Funeral Home, Franklin. A homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Mill Neck Baptist Church, Como, N.C.
