AHOSKIE, N.C.—Betty King Britton, 76, died Sept. 30, 2009, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
She was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Hertford County to the late Robert J. Britton and Minnie King Britton.
She was a graduate of Chowan Junior College in Murfreesboro and Shorter College in Rome, Ga.
She taught public school in Georgia and North Carolina and worked in the Salvation Army Day Care Center in Chicago, Ill.
She later lived in Ahoskie and was an active member of First Baptist Church and secretary of the W.M.U.
Her love for poetry inspired her to pen multiple lines of verse. A compilation may be read in the church library.
In her later years, she resided at Pinewood Manor Adult Care and Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
Survivors include her son, Allen Britton Foster of Amarillo, Texas.
A Celebration of Life service was to be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at the graveside in Highland Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Daniel Glaze will officiate.
