Mattie J. Garris
FRANKLIN—Mattie J. “Mary Jane” Garris, died Sept. 24, 2009, in her home.
The Southampton County native was born June 17, 1921, to the late George Denson and Edith Council Denson.
Survivors include one son, Andrew “Hop” Foster; three grandchildren, Candice Foster-Hamlin (Anthony), Brandy Foster and Ansonia Foster; five great-grandchildren; foster children, Doretha DeBerry, Earl Jones and Fenton Jones; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., Franklin, with the Rev. Sherin Flythe delivering the message of comfort.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
