William H. Reed Jr.
HAMPTON—William Henry “Butch” Reed Jr., 66, died Aug. 26, 2009, at the Hampton VA Medical Center.
Known as “Butch” to his family and friends, he was born in Norfolk on July 8, 1943.
Mr. Reed served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked many years as a commercial fisherman until he retired. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and became a member of Sweet Haven Holy Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr. and Lucille Reed; his brother, George Reed; and his sister, Theresa Reed.
Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Marion Cole Reed of Hampton; one son, William Lee Reed of Glen Burnie, Md.; two stepsons, Robert Cole Jr. of Richmond and Ronnie Cole of Newsoms; five stepdaughters, Tina Lewis, Patricia Cole, and Kesha Billups, all of Richmond, Jackie Francisco and Sylvia Sinagra, both of Hampton; two brothers, Theodore Reed of San Francisco, Calif. and Wilbert Lee Reed of Hampton; one sister, Catherine Thomas of College Park, Md.; 19 grandchildren including a devoted grandson Josh Cole; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; dedicated friends including George Parker, Sallie Cooper, Frank and Patricia Matthews.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Hampton VA Medical Center’s Franklin Murphy Chapel.
Interment will follow the service at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends will assemble by 10 a.m., at the funeral home for the procession to the chapel.
