MURFREESBORO, N.C.—Earl E. Gibson, 76, died Aug. 17, 2009, after suffering from heart disease.
Mr. Gibson was born and raised in Murfreesboro, a son of the late Marvin L. and Georgia Mae Bryant Gibson.
He attended Murfreesboro High School and joined the Air Force in 1952 where he served for 22 years, retiring in 1974.
During the last five years of his military career, he was assigned to Air Force One at Andrews Air Force Base.
After retirement from the military, he and his family moved back to Murfreesboro and he joined the work force of Union Camp Corp., where he retired as a millwright after 20 years of service.
He and his wife Trudy were married for 55 years. They enjoyed traveling and amassed a collection of antique oil lamps. He loved music, was an avid outdoorsman, and a motorcycle enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy Parker Gibson; three sons, Pete and wife Suzanne of Murfreesboro, Marty and wife Roberta of Conway, N.C. and Tim and wife Martha of Courtland; two granddaughters, Amanda and Michelle; a sister, Doretta G. Maxton of Greensboro, N.C.; and a brother, Marvin L. Gibson Jr. of Wilson, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside celebration of life service with military honors will be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, with the Rev. David Ross and the Rev. Dr. Hargus Taylor officiating.
