Burrell D. Roberts
WINDSOR—Burrell David Roberts, 72, died Aug. 10, 2009, at Southampton Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Isle of Wight, he was the son of the late Harvey O. and Elma B. Roberts and widower of Joyce Hedgepeth Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a pipe fitter with the Newport News Shipyard and retired after 36 years of service.
He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and superintendent of the Sunday School.
He was an active Mason and Shriner, having been a member of the Knights of Mecca, Past Master of Purdie Masonic Lodge #170 AF & AM, Past District Deputy of 31st Masonic District, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple, Past Captain of the Color Guard of the Khedive Shrine Temple, Past President of Suffolk Shrine Club and member of Franklin Shrine Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Estelle Stradley and husband Joe of Windsor; granddaughter, Sarah Jo Stradley of Windsor.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Windsor Baptist Church by the Rev. Bryan Brooks with burial in Windsor Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
