EDENTON, N.C.—Mylan Franklin Pressnell, 94, died Aug. 4, 2009, in a local nursing facility.
Born in Ivor on Sept. 22, 1914, he had been a longtime resident of Burlington, N.C. where he was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired cost analyst with Western Electric.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ruby S. Pressnell of Edenton; two granddaughters, Cara Lynn Vogel and husband Jamie of Raleigh, N.C. and Andrea D. Croom of Raleigh; one grandson, Kevin J. Croom and wife Missy of Farmville, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Rebecca and Dustin Croom of Farmville, and Jesse Vogel of Raleigh; a son-in-law, Jesse J. Croom and wife Mary Anne of Edenton; three step grandchildren, Tim Britton and wife Angie of Ahoskie, N.C., Malinda Schantz and husband David of Raleigh and Michelle Britton of Wilmington, N.C.; and six step great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pressnell was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Pressnell Croom, in 1996.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff of the Skilled Nursing Facility of Chowan Hospital for the love and care given to “Mr. Press” during the past two years.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Edenton Baptist Church by the Rev. David Brooks and the Rev. Dr. Jesse J. Croom.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
Friends may join the family at the home of his son-in-law, Jesse J. Croom, 408 Bay Point Drive, Edenton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; the Alzheimer’s Association; Edenton Baptist Church, 200 S. Granville St., Edenton, N.C. 27932; or the Woman’s Missionary Union of North Carolina.
