Robert A. Norfleet
WINDSOR—Robert Archer Norfleet, 80, died Aug. 1, 2009.
He was born in Nansemond County, the son of the late Edla A. and Abram E. Norfleet Sr.
Mr. Norfleet was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Robert was a farmer and retired as a mechanic from the City of Norfolk.
He was a lifelong member of Western Branch Baptist Church and attended the Adult Men’s Bible Class. He served as a deacon, trustee and chairman of the ushers.
He was an honorary member of the Windsor Ruritan Club.
He was a former member of the Kings Fork Ruritan Club where he served as past president.
He was a charter member of the “Meals on Wheels” Windsor Team and was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society “Road to Recovery.”
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Virginia S. Norfleet of Windsor; daughter, Cindy Norfleet of Suffolk; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Larry Norfleet and Leta of Warm Springs; step-daughter, Janet Joyner and husband Jerry of Franklin; step-sons, John Faris Oliver, Sr. and wife Debbie of Gates, N.C., Horace Ronald Oliver and wife Sandy of Suffolk; grandchildren, April N. Thompson and husband Tim, Robbie Norfleet, Eric Norfleet, Brittney Norfleet, Brenan Oliver, John Oliver Jr., Megan Oliver, Codi Oliver, Kaeli Oliver, Malia Oliver, Tyler Gyoker and Jeremy Joyner; sisters, Doris N. Bailey of Franklin, Marianna Whitley and husband Bobby of Smithfield and Margaret N. Saunders of Suffolk; brothers, William F. Norfleet and wife Zada of Suffolk and Abe Norfleet Jr. and wife Betty of Stoney Creek.
He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather to all who knew him as “Pops.”
A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Western Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Basil L. Ballard officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
