Donald E. Brothers
IVOR—Donald Edwin Brothers, 84, died at his home July 26, 2009.
Born in Canton, Ohio, on Oct. 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Harry Lee Brothers and Olga Frances Hurd Brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ann Hundley Brothers; four children, Pat B. McGaha and husband Gary of Georgia, Donald Brothers Jr. and wife Debbie of California, Linda B. Jeffrey and husband Dave of Virginia and Betty B. King and husband Joe of Alabama; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert A. Brothers and wife Evaleen and Phillip J. Brothers and wife Donna, both of Washington.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Harry Jr., Paul and David; three sisters, Marilyn, Harriet and Jinny; and one great-grandson, Seth.
He was an active member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church and attended the Harold West Bible Class.
He had previously been a member of Pine Grove Assembly of God and Colosse Baptist Church.
He was a former Lay Minister for Potomac S. E. District, Assembly of God denomination; a former pastor of Bethel Assembly of God Church, Franklin; and had taught the Adult Sunday School Class at Pine Grove Assembly of God, Windsor.
During World War II, he proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in many campaigns throughout Central Europe for which he received numerous battle ribbons and medals.
He was a sheet metal plater at Newport News Drydock & Shipbuilding, Northrup Grumman (formerly Tenneco Shipbuilding Co.) for many years.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, Zuni, by the Rev. Rob Edwards.
Burial with military honors will follow at Mill Swamp Church Cemetery, Ivor.
The family will receive friends at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church on today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Following the burial on Thursday afternoon, the family will return to the Family Life Center of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church for a reception for family and friends.
