PORTSMOUTH—Georgia Chandler Woodhouse, 90, died July 12, 2009, in Portsmouth.
She was a retired teacher and guidance counselor at Churchland High School and Woodrow Wilson High School, and a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Mary Washington College and the University of Virginia.
A native and lifelong resident of Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Barnes Woodhouse and Grace Hudgins Woodhouse and the sister of the late Grace Virginia Rawls and Louise Woodhouse Story.
She was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church; Miriam Gruber Circle; Gamma Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma; and The Friends of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum.
She was past president of the Portsmouth Education Association and past district president of the Virginia Education Association, past president of the Junior Woman’s Club of Portsmouth, and past junior president of the Virginia Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Survivors include two nieces and a nephew, Chandler Woodhouse Story Dennis of Sandbridge Beach, Clyde Virginia Rawls of Alexandria and William Joseph Story III and wife Diane of Waverly and Virginia Beach; five great-nephews; and eight great-great- nieces and -nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in Monumental United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Friend.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to her service at the church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Mayfair House for the tender loving care given to our Aunt Georgiana over these many years.
