FRANKLIN—Robbie Clarence “Rob” Councill III, 52, died June 20, 2009, at his residence after a yearlong battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Franklin, he was a son of the late Meta Pace Matthews and Robbie C. Councill Jr. Rob was a graduate of Franklin High School, attended Ferrum College and Paul D. Camp Community College, and was employed by Electric Motor and Contracting of Courtland. Rob enjoyed spending his days fishing, hunting, and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of High Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Deborah Sykes Councill; two daughters, Courtney E. Councill and fiancé, Stephen Joyner, Whitney C. Councill and special friend Ryan Council; two sisters, Louise C. Riddick and husband Nat of Ahoskie, N.C., and Anne C. Williams and husband Taylor of Franklin; one brother, William E. Councill and wife Cindy of Franklin; aunt, Dorothy C. Beale of Franklin; father and mother-in-law, Horace S. “Tommy” Sykes and wife Vera of Franklin; brother and sister-in-law, Horace S. “Stanley” Sykes Jr. and wife Donna of Franklin; nieces, Meta Stratton, Elizabeth Riddick, Natalie Riddick and Bridget Sykes; nephews, Travis Councill, Wade Councill, Bert Williams and Dustin Sykes; cousins, Carolyn Cheshire of Raleigh, N.C., and Milton Beale of Carrsville.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Father Carl DeSouza officiating.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to your local Relay for Life team or St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Judes Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
