IVOR—Arthur Lee “Richard” King died June 5, 2009.
He was born in Surry County, Nov. 29, 1929.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vandy Stringfield and his mother, Cassie King.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gracie King; one stepdaughter, two grandsons, eight sisters and nine brothers.
Mr. King was educated in Womble School in Surry County and he was a farmer most of his life.
He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wakefield, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Temple Lodge.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tinnile King of Ivor; six daughters, Ella Artis of Newport News, Delbra Holloman (Joseph), Linda Ellis (Melvin) of Wakefield, Sharon Smith (Terry) of Waverly, Ada Finney of Newport News and Theresa Jones (Anthony) of Queens, N.Y.; eight sons, James King (Wendy), Andrew Sumler (Gladys) of Wakefield, Dennis King (Sharon) of Waverly, Marshall King (Karen) of Virginia Beach, Arthur Lee King Jr. of New York, Jerry King of Surry and Roman King of Disputanta; six stepdaughters and one stepson; 49 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lizzie King of New York, Perean Urquhart of Wakefield, Alberta Charity and Pearl McDaniel of Newport News; one brother, Bobbie Lee King of Smithfield.; six sisters-in law; two brothers-in-law; and a very dear and close friend that he took as a son, Otis Hardy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, officiated by the Rev. Leslie L. Holloway.
Interment will be in Booker T. Memorial Cemetery in Wakefield.
The family will be at 7485 Proctor Bridge Road, Ivor, and will also assemble there at 1 p.m. today for the funeral.
