RICH SQUARE, N.C.—Fannie Louise Sutton Ellis, died June 1, 2009, at Rich Square Health Care Center.
She was born March 25, 1917, the eldest of six children of William McKinley Sutton and Ollie Jones Sutton in Macon County, N.C., her beloved Appalachian home.
On March 25, 1934, she married Herman Bryan Ellis, who was reared on the southeastern coast of North Carolina.
Mrs. Ellis devoted her entire adult life to the care of her family. After living in the mountains of North Carolina, in Tennessee, and in South Carolina, she and Herman eventually settled in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, where they raised six children.
In addition to both parents and all five siblings, she was predeceased by her husband, Herman; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue E. Boykin and Felton Boykin; a son, William Bryan Ellis; a granddaughter, Deborah H. DeBenedictus; and a great-grandson, Derrick Wright Ellis.
Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Anna Ruth E. Wood and husband Don of Holland, Linda E. Vann and husband Albert of Conway, N.C., Dani Ellis and wife Pat of Franklin and Gerald Ellis and wife Mary Jo of Murfreesboro, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Carol B. Ellis of Sedley; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives who were always close in heart.
To honor her wishes, a graveside service was held Thursday at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Conway, with the Rev. David Ross presiding.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church, 2152 Ashley’s Grove Road, Conway, NC.
Bridgers Funeral Home, Conway, handled the arrangements.
